Truett Seminary's Online Certificate Program is serious study at a level appropriate for anyone. The structure and schedule of the program is designed to maximize flexibility by allowing students to accomplish assignments based on their own schedules, rather than a fixed calendar. Whether online or in-person, each course is only $250, making excellent theological education more accessible and affordable.
Flexible Schedule
Certificate Program courses are taken one at a time and can be started at any time.
Our goal is that Certificate students would spend a total of 2 to 3 hours per week on coursework and strive to finish each online course within the time allotted (8 or 12 weeks depending on the course), but additional time can be taken if unexpected life circumstances cause delays.
Manageable Assignments
Weekly reading assignments average 15 to 30 pages and lead to question prompts requiring a small amount of writing meant to prompt application, reflection, and critical thinking.
Additional assignments may include:
- Reviewing articles
- Studying a passage of Scripture
- Reviewing a case study, or
- Working on a multi-week project
Each course is efficiently designed to be only a modest time commitment, and there are no required meetings or long videos to watch.
Personal Assessment and Feedback
As a non-academic program, the Certificate Program does not provide grades or “passing” or “failing” scores.
Feedback is regularly given on student assignments, and work is reviewed and critiqued in ways that increase learning potential. Our Certificate Program team reads submitted assignments and provides helpful comments to clear up confusion, provide direction, and give affirmation in good work and/or critique for work that needs improvement. We seek to encourage our students through ongoing interaction, but also to challenge them to dig deeper when necessary.
Personalized Choices
Instead of providing a “one size fits all” curriculum, the Certificate Program allows students to tailor their studies to their own personal interests and callings. The varied desires of our students have led to the creation of three sequential levels of certificate achievement:
- Foundation
- Primary
- Advanced
Each certificate level leads to the next. At the Primary and Advanced-levels, each student will be able to choose courses from a variety of electives, including:
- Online courses
- On-campus seminar courses taught by Truett Seminary faculty
- Personalized Independent Study Projects
- Courses offered in partnership with other organizations
