Incoming Student
Congratulations on your acceptance to Truett Seminary! Please take a look at the following Checklist for New Students. It will inform you of the various steps that you must take before you begin as an incoming student.
1. Pay Your Enrollment Deposit
To ensure your spot at Truett, you will need to pay the temporarily discounted $150 enrollment deposit (if you have not already done so). This deposit will be applied to your student account and reduces balance owed during financial settlement. Students are required to pay their enrollment deposit before registering for courses. 2. Seek and Receive Financial Information
Check out the financial information on the Truett website including estimated costs, Truett scholarship awards, outside scholarship opportunities, church matching, and need-based aid. After paying your enrollment deposit, you will receive a scholarship award letter from Truett Seminary. You will also receive an award notification from Student Financial Services. Their office can assist with all questions regarding new or deferred loans.
3. Activate Your Bear_ID
The next step will be for you to activate your Bear ID. Once you activate your Bear ID and set your password, you will have access to your Baylor email and the systems you will need to register for and manage your classes. Please follow these instructions provided in order to activate your Bear ID. Please note: you will not be able to activate your Bear_ID until your deposit has been processed.
4. Set Up DUO Two-Factor Authentication
Baylor protects its most vital, widely-accessed university and personal information resources with Duo Two-Factor Authentication. This additional layer of protection provides insurance against threats to personal information, sensitive research data, and other university information and resources stored within Baylor systems and other online platforms. Please follow these instructions provided in order to set up DUO Two-Factor Authentication.
5. Check Your Baylor Email
After your Bear_ID has been activated, and you set up DUO Two-Factor Authentication, please begin checking your Baylor email on a regular basis, as you will begin to receive emails from several different offices at Truett.
6. Set Up Your BearWeb Account and Register for Classes
BearWeb is the online service that students utilize to register for classes, check final grades, and look at their transcript. Once you have set up your account, you will be able to register for classes for the upcoming semester. 7. Sign Up For Truett Orientation
Orientation is required for ALL incoming students at Truett Seminary.
8. Answer the Covenant Group Questionnaire
If you are a student on Truett's Waco campus, please take a few minutes to fill out this short questionnaire which will help us in placing you in a compatible Covenant Group by the start of the upcoming semester. Don't know what a Covenant Group is? Find the answer on the Spiritual Formation website and take a moment to read a letter from Spiritual Formation.
9. Financial Wellness for Seminary Students
Truett Seminary is committed to the financial wellness of our students. Our Financial Wellness for Ministry program has resources available for incoming and current students, including tools to create a budget, managing debt, and reduce your student loans. Please visit the Financial Wellness website for more information.
Additional Items
Submit Your Completed Health Form
Before beginning class, you must submit the completed health form along with your immunization records to the Health Services office. Additional details are available at the Baylor Health Services page.
Obtain your Baylor Student ID
Baylor University's ID card is a single-card program that combines many features including identification, library privileges, building access, lab access, meal plans, selected student functions, football ticket distribution, plus other activities. The ID Card Production office is shared with the Parking Services office located in the Speight Parking Garage (next to the Cashion building). You must obtain your student ID card before the semester begins.
Pay Your Balance and Confirm Attendance
Baylor University will send an e-bill to your Baylor email account. Financial settlement is a two-part process that you will need to complete. It involves your paying the balance on your student account and confirming your attendance. Learn more about financial settlement, payment options, and university deadlines on the Cashier’s website. If you have questions about your Truett scholarship reflected on your bill, contact Scholarship Services at Truett Seminary.
Submit FAFSA
To apply for federal loans and federal work-study, students will need to complete and submit the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). For questions, please contact Baylor Student Financial Services at www.baylor.edu/sfs/contactus.
International Students
Additional steps are required for international students. Please visit the International Student & Scholar Services Office for information regarding registration and required forms. For international students who are seeking resources to assist with communication, Language Support for International Graduate Students is available at the Baylor Graduate School.
Advanced Standing
Advanced Standing is available to incoming students for introductory courses including Introduction to Christian Scriptures and Introduction to Christian History and Christian Theology, as well as the introductory courses of Greek and Hebrew. Students may qualify for advanced standing if they graduated with a degree in Religion and maintained at least a "B" average. Advanced placement exams are required for students seeking advanced standing credit; exams will be offered the week of New Student Orientation for those interested. Advanced Standing students are encouraged to register for classes as though they have already been granted advanced placement status to avoid registration challenges.
Transfer Credit
Any student who has taken courses at an accredited seminary (or approved university graduate program) may apply to receive transfer credit. Only courses taken at accredited institutions are transferable, but the courses must have been taken within the past six years. No grade lower than a "B" or its equivalent will be transferred from another institution.
Parking Options
If you would like to park in designated student parking areas on campus you must purchase a student parking permits for the academic year. You can order your student parking permit and find more information on the Parking Services website. This fee will be charged directly to your Baylor account.
Campus Transportation
The Baylor University Shuttle (BUS) offers multiple routes that travel around the Baylor campus. Visit the BUS website for route and other area transit information.
Housing Options
Truett Seminary students can find housing options and roommates through the housing options page on our website. We also offer Truett Designated Housing for those who would like to live in community with other Truett students. The Quadrangle is another option within walking distance of campus specifically for graduate students. You can find more information about apartments in the area through Baylor’s off-campus housing website.
Buying Textbooks
Once you have registered for classes, you can visit the Baylor Bookstore in person (located in the 5th Street parking complex) or online at the Baylor Bookstore Website to purchase your textbooks.
Update Your Contact Information
Help us by providing an update of your local address, phone and/or cell phone numbers, and contact information in case of an emergency. After you log into BearWeb, you will be able to fill out this information in the Personal Information section.
