Distinctives of the Anglican Episcopal House of Studies
Anglican Worship and Gatherings: Students in the House will have the opportunity to join in the Daily Office with Morning Prayer held in the Seminary’s courtyard. They will be given ample opportunities to lead both Morning and Evening Prayer throughout the wider University community in various chapels, participate in the unique local offerings of churches across the Anglican/Episcopal spectrum (Broad Church, Anglo-Catholic, Evangelical), and experience the gift of life together with other students walking in the Anglican tradition.
Academic Rigor, Theological Depth: In addition to the high caliber courses that students will take alongside other seminarians (theology, biblical studies, preaching), students of the House will also take classes on Anglican/Episcopal history, theology, polity, and liturgics taught by esteemed faculty with both academic expertise and experience in various ecclesial settings. Students will also have occasional opportunities to take classes offered within other areas of the Baylor University enhancing their formation in Anglican thought (e.g., The Oxford Christians, an Inklings course taught each year within Baylor’s English Department).
Multi-denominational Community: The Anglican Episcopal House offers a distinctive opportunity to learn and worship alongside students from other denominations while living uniquely within the Anglican way. The relationship with students and faculty outside the Anglican stream will prepare students for the work of ministry in an increasingly complex world, while the community found within the House will prepare students to live out their lay and priestly ministries within Anglican contexts.
Preparation for Ordained Ministry: Within the House, students will find resources and guides equipped to walk alongside them as they prepare to meet the various ordination requirements. Having already prepared men and women for ministry in various contexts across the Anglican/Episcopal world since its inception, the House allows Truett Seminary to offer more intentional attention to each student’s needs as he or she navigates the necessary requirements for ordination within a specific ecclesial body.
