WACO, Texas (June 22, 2023) – Baylor University’s George W. Truett Theological Seminary  is mourning the passing of Dr. Russell H. Dilday, who, among his many professional achievements, served as a distinguished professor of homiletics and as acting dean at Truett Seminary.

With regard to the news, Dean Todd D. Still said, "Dr. Russell H. Dilday was an extraordinarily gifted preacher, teacher, administrator, and leader who helped to light the way for innumerable students as well as for congregations, institutions, and a denomination for years on end. Along with so many others, it was my pleasure and privilege to call him both my President (as an alumnus of Southwestern Seminary) and my friend. I am, and we are, diminished by his death even as we were blessed by his life. He was and remains the measure of a genuine Christian statesman, gentleman, and scholar.

A Baylor alumnus, former Truett administrator and faculty member, and renowned Baptist leader, Russell H. Dilday’s legacy of scholarship, leadership, and discipleship will continue to inspire and encourage Baptist ministers and lay leaders alike.

As his family seeks to honor Dr. Dilday’s legacy of equipping future ministers to lead lives of sacrificial service, they have requested that memorials be made to the Russell H. Dilday Chair in Baptist Life and Leadership at Truett Seminary. To participate in the establishment of this endowed chair, please contact Jon Sisk at jon_sisk@baylor.edu or call (254) 715-6124.
