1. What led you to pursue seminary right after completing your undergraduate degree?
As I approached the end of my undergraduate studies, I knew that I wanted to go to seminary at some point, but the wise counsel of others in vocational ministry and prayer helped me to realize that the sooner I went, the better! It's not impossible to go to seminary later in life, but, as many people I know can attest, doing so can become increasingly complicated over time. And so, it seemed best for me to jump straight into seminary.

2. How did you discern your calling to ministry, and how has Truett shaped that calling?
By the grace of God, I've known that the Lord was calling me into vocational ministry since high school, so I came to Truett with a clear sense of calling. Still, Truett has only increased my confidence in that call. This past summer, I had the privilege of serving at the church I grew up in as a part of the MDiv program, and the Lord used the experience to encourage me that this path is the one He has equipped me for.
3. What drew you to Truett specifically, and how has Truett helped make theological education accessible for you?
Two things made Truett stand out as I was looking at various seminaries. First, Truett’s emphasis on youth and family ministry is rare to find at the graduate level, and it was an important factor in my decision. Second, Truett's financial generosity makes it possible for me to attend seminary without the burden of debt. I think it's safe to say that no one goes into youth ministry for the money, so Truett's affordability is a huge blessing!
4. How have your classes and professors influenced your faith and ministry outlook?
Truett has been formative for me by growing my capacity for charitable orthodoxy. Most of the things I'm learning in the classroom feel at home with the tradition I was raised in, and even the parts that I don't align with have refined me, helping me to consider why I believe what I believe and how to dialog kindly while retaining conviction. I have especially enjoyed my Bible classes, which have grown my love for exploring Scripture. Also, I have felt known and well-cared-for by the professors I have had classes with at Truett.
5. What’s a standout moment or experience you have had at Truett?
One of my favorite parts of the year is the Truett Christmas party! It is a delight getting to gather with classmates, professors, and staff, share a meal together, and celebrate the birth of Jesus through both entertaining and meaningful traditions. My first year at the Truett Christmas party, I was struck by the rich gift of community as I looked around a room full of so many familiar faces.

6. You are very involved in Truett life—What do you like about the Truett experience?
Being part of a small seminary connected to a large university provides lots of special opportunities, so I'm trying to make the most of it! From chapel/post-chapel lunch and guest lectures to Dr. Pepper Hour and the Baylor rock wall, you really do get the best of both worlds. Seminarians engage with these opportunities at various levels, but plenty of opportunities are available for those who want them.
7. What kind of ministry or work do you hope to pursue after graduation?
My plan is to serve in youth ministry for as long as the Lord lets me! While I'm not opposed to other forms of ministry, I also don't want to use youth ministry as a steppingstone to get somewhere else. Middle/high school are some of the most formative years of life, so I am eager to serve the Lord by sharing His steadfast love to students.
8. What encouragement would you offer to someone considering seminary?
Ultimately, seek the Lord's guidance on whether He is prompting you towards seminary or something else. To quote an old proverb I once heard, "If the Lord is calling you to be a pastor, don't you dare be a businessman, but if the Lord is calling you to be a businessman, don't you dare be a pastor!" So, if you do feel drawn to seminary, know that it isn't just for your benefit. Seminary is meant to deepen your relationship with God and equip you to serve those who may not have the luxury of pursuing a theological education.
