March 12, 2025

WACO, Texas (March 17, 2025) – Baylor University’s George W. Truett Theological Seminary announced today that Michael Mauriello, PhD, has been appointed to serve as clinical associate professor of youth and family ministry beginning August 2025.

Combining his extensive pastoral experience with years of teaching and mentoring future ministers, Mauriello will guide Truett Seminary students as they learn how to engage more effectively young people and families in mission and ministry.

New faculty member Michael Mauriello

“We cannot wait to welcome Dr. Michael Mauriello to Truett,” said Angela Reed, PhD, associate dean for academic affairs, associate professor of practical theology, and director of spiritual formation. “He has been doing remarkable work in faith formation and vocational discernment among youth and emerging adults for many years, both in congregational and university settings. Dr. Mauriello's desire to begin building relationships with youth and family ministers in the communities we serve is especially appreciated, and we look forward to all that he will bring to strengthen our emphasis on this essential need that exists in every congregation.”

Mauriello holds a BA from North Carolina State University and a MDiv and PhD from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. He currently serves at LeTourneau University's School of Theology and Vocation as associate professor of Christian ministry and as one of the directors of the Passage Institute for Youth and Theology. Additionally, Mauriello is a board member of the Society of Professors in Christian Ministry and the Association of Youth Ministry Educators.

Prior to becoming a professor, Mauriello served two congregations as a youth and associate pastor. He has more than a decade of full-time ministry experience leading children, youth, young adult, adult, small group, and outreach ministries.

“The family is a cornerstone of God’s design for human experience, and adolescence is a God-designed period where faith can mature along with the teenager,” said Mauriello. “Ministry to family and youth should be thoroughly theological, missional, and ministerial, and that is why I am so excited to start serving with Truett Seminary. Truett is uniquely positioned to give shape to a thoroughly evangelical and theologically rigorous approach to youth and family ministry that can seriously respond to the cultural and ministerial challenges of today’s world. Youth and family ministers both deserve and require intentional spiritual, biblical, and theological formation. Truett understands that; I cannot wait to begin.”

Larry Parsley, PhD, clinical professor of Christian ministry, director of mentoring, and chair of the search committee, said regarding the appointment, "I am thrilled that Dr. Mauriello is joining our faculty. He brings a deep and wide understanding of youth and family ministry, both as a scholar and a practitioner. His enthusiasm for training the next generation is infectious."
