Keith Bruce Welcome

Baylor University’s George W. Truett Theological Seminary is pleased to announce the appointment of Keith D. Bruce, DMin, as Acting Director of Truett in San Antonio.

In response to this significant development, Bruce remarked, “I am most excited about this unexpected opportunity to assist in establishing Truett’s ministry in San Antonio. The response to Truett’s San Antonio campus has been so positive, and I look forward to helping further connect Truett with congregations, prospective students, and the broader faith community in this dynamic and diverse city. Not only does Truett have much to offer to San Antonio, but I believe that San Antonio offers a unique cultural and ministry setting for students preparing to have a meaningful gospel impact on our changing world.”

This June, Bruce retired as Vice President of Mission and Ministry for Baptist Health System in San Antonio, a role he had held since October 2013, and through which he oversaw Baptist Health System’s covenant to maintain and enhance a Christian faith-based commitment in its mission, values, and ministry. This included providing administrative leadership for the system’s pastoral care ministries, clinical pastoral education program, medical ethics consultation, bereavement services, and volunteer program in addition to fostering relationships with faith congregations and community organizations.

Prior to his time at Baptist Health System, Bruce served as Executive Director of Breckenridge Village of Tyler, a residential campus for adults with developmental disabilities, and for almost 14 years as the Director of Institutional Relations with the Baptist General Convention of Texas. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from Baylor University and his Master of Divinity and Doctor of Ministry degrees from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

As Acting Director of Truett in San Antonio, Bruce will oversee the launch of the new campus, supporting and resourcing students, networking and building relationships with local ministers and other community leaders, and serving as a bridge between San Antonio and the Seminary’s flagship Waco campus.

“I am most grateful that Dr. Keith D. Bruce is both willing and able to serve as Acting Director of Truett in San Antonio. It is a blessing beyond measure that a person of Keith’s character, skill, experience, and stature will be shepherding our San Antonio campus as we begin this new and needed initiative,” said Todd D. Still, PhD, DeLancey Dean and Hinson Professor of Truett Seminary. “As we launch and as Keith leads, we covet your ongoing prayers and support. As we have learned in Houston, it is no small feat to ‘stand up’ an extension campus, and we greatly appreciate all who are helping the dream of our providing theological education for San Antonio and the surrounding region to become a reality.”
