Baylor University’s Truett Seminary Appoints Dr. Daniel Lee Hill as Assistant Professor of Christian Theology

March 11, 2022
Welcome Daniel Hill

Baylor University’s George W. Truett Theological Seminary Dean Todd D. Still has announced the appointment of Daniel Lee Hill, PhD, as Assistant Professor of Christian Theology. He will join the Truett Seminary faculty on August 1, 2022, following the retirement of Dr. Roger Olson, effective December 31, 2021.

“Dr. Daniel Hill brings a wealth of knowledge of the Christian theological tradition and of the Afro-American theological heritage, including the writings of Christian abolitionary figures of the past,” said Kimlyn J. Bender, PhD, Professor of Christian Theology and chair of the search committee who recommended Hill. “His love for Christ and the church, as well as his scholarship and prior ministry and educational service, make him ideally situated to train future ministers and engage Truett students with the gospel.”

Hill earned his bachelor’s degree from Hampton University, his Master of Theology from Dallas Theological Seminary, and his PhD from Wheaton College. His research interests include ecclesiology, theological anthropology, and political theology. He presently serves as Assistant Professor for Theological Studies at Dallas Theological Seminary, and his current book project with Baker Academic is titled, Gospel Freedom. Hill previously served in young adult and college ministry and was a founding board member of a classical Christian school on Chicago’s West Side.

“We are inspired and encouraged by Dr. Hill’s ability to connect with faculty and students alike!” added Angela Reed, PhD, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Associate Professor of Practical Theology, and Director of Spiritual Formation. “He combines a rich personal faith with strong teaching skills and a fascinating research trajectory. All of these qualities point to an excellent fit in support of the overall mission of Truett Seminary and Baylor University. We look forward to welcoming Dr. Hill to the Truett community!”

Hill is married to Jessica, an ASL interpreter and a New Englander, who has “fallen in love with Texas weather.” In addition to his work and ministry, Hill enjoys watching and playing chess, cooking (particularly making homemade hot sauce), gardening, mountains, and the beach. He is also a record collector and enjoys opportunities to attend both the symphony and theatre, especially when an August Wilson play is being performed.

“I am incredibly excited to join the faculty of Truett Seminary,” Hill shared. “I look forward to laboring and working alongside gifted scholars and curious students, hoping to help cultivate a love of learning and a sense of wonder at the work God has called us to. Truett's commitment to rigorous academic work, paired with an emphasis on training and equipping students for the gospel-ministry is something that is near and dear to my heart.”

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Daniel Lee Hill to the Truett Family!
