Truett Faculty Member Nominated for the Martin Luther King, Jr. Collegium of Scholars
Waco, Texas (October 6, 2025)–Tyshawn Gardner, PhD, associate professor of preaching, holder of the David E. Garland Endowed Chair in Preaching, and assistant director of the Kyle Lake Center for Effective Preaching at Baylor’s Truett Seminary, has been nominated for induction into the Martin Luther King, Jr. College of Ministers and Laity’s Collegium of Scholars at Morehouse College.
Membership in the collegium is extended to scholars who “are committed to research, writing, teaching, and mentoring in a wide variety of disciplines and contexts that promote and give support to the work of peace through moral cosmopolitan social responsibility.”
Gardner attended the induction ceremony on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at the Martin Luther King, Jr. International Chapel at Morehouse College. He was among 45 inducted into the class of 2025.
“I am grateful and humbled to be inducted into the Martin Luther King, Jr. Collegium of Scholars,” said Gardner. “For years I have applauded the work and service of the ministers and scholars who were inducted into this prestigious class. For me to be included among them is a blessing for which I feel most indebted. I am grateful for the service of Dean Carter and for Morehouse College. I also congratulate the men and women who share this honor with me."
