William Walker, PhD

The Rev. Dr. William Walker received his PhD in philosophy of religion and theology from Claremont Graduate University in 2016. He holds a BBA in Economics and Spanish from Baylor, as well as an MTS from Truett Seminary. He has taught many courses in historical theology, spiritual formation, and Christian Ethics at Truett and Baylor since 2017. He also completed the certificate program in spiritual direction at Truett Seminary in 2019.     

Walker has published several articles and book chapters on these subjects, in addition to a monograph in 2020 with Lexington-Fortress Press, A Theology of the Drug War: Globalization, Violence, and Salvation. This work explores the theology of Hans Urs von Balthasar and the economic ethics of Argentine-Mexican philosopher Enrique Dussel in order to put forward an ecclesiology for North American evangelicals that responds to some of the biggest moral challenges arising in the context of the relationship between the U.S. and Central America.  

Walker is an ordained priest in the Diocese of Churches for the Sake of Others and currently directs a Christian Study Center at UT-Austin called Hill House. Previously, he served as the Director of Vocation at Christ Church of Austin and Associate Pastor of St. Peter’s Church in Charleston, SC. He and his wife, Whitney, have three boys and live in Austin.
